Neighborhood Safety Protocol

HINA MAP

This protocol applies to the Historic Ingleside Neighborhood of Macon, GA (as outlined above)

Using funds raised over the past few years, HINA has purchased cameras and had them installed at various locations around the neighborhood. For months we have been in near constant communication with the Macon-Bibb County Sheriff’s Office about the best way to utilize the camera system both to keep the neighborhood safe by deterring crime and, when incidents do occur, to help law enforcement with their investigation.

After much back and forth, we’ve settled on the below protocol. If you witness a crime or concern or are the victim of a crime, please follow the below steps if you believe the HINA camera system will assist law enforcement in investigating and apprehending any suspects.

Emergencies and Crimes-in-Progress

  • If there is an emergency (e.g., medical, fire, violent crime), immediately call 911.

  • If you witness a crime in progress (e.g., someone entering an automobile, someone breaking into a home), immediately call 911.

  • If the HINA camera system could assist in law enforcement’s investigation of an emergency or crime-in-progress, follow the directions in Step 2 below.

Non-Emergencies

(e.g., you discover the next morning that your car was broken into, you discover a burglary upon arriving home from work, you see suspicious person):

  • Step 1: Call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 to report the crime or concern.
    • The responding deputy will complete a report, provide you with a case number, and collect any forensic or physical evidence from the scene.
    • ***If you do not report the crime or concern and obtain a report number, the HINA camera system cannot be utilized.
  • Step 2: Notify the Strategic Information Center at SIC@maconbibb.us of the crime or concern so that they can determine whether the HINA camera system captured footage of evidentiary value.
    • Provide your case number, the address where the issue arose, and a brief description of the offense.
    • Analysts will review the HINA camera footage and provide feedback if anything collected was of evidentiary value.
